Ancient Heirloom Tobacco Seeds
You receive two types of Heirloom Tobacco Seeds:
Avalon BC, from Avocado’s Avalon Farm in Canada, was rediscovered at a Native American burial site near Thunder Bay, Ontario. The site was estimated to be approximately 800 years old!! This is a small stature North American tobacco (Nicotiana rustica) that bears profuse amounts of creamy-yellow bell-shaped flowers on plants that average 2’ high x 2’ wide, but may grow larger under ideal conditions. The harvested leaves are milder and more mellow than modern rustica types.
Maui Landrace was collected by Red Wolf from colonies of wild tobacco on the slopes of Maui’s Haleakala. This is a West Indies type tobacco (Nicotiana tabaccum), escaped from cultivation and naturalized in this magically powerful island ecosystem. The flowers are trumpet-shaped and bubblegum-pink, making a vibrant display late in the growing season. Plants grow to an average of 6’ high x 3’ wide, but will stay smaller if tightly spaced. The leaves harvested from this plant range from mild to robust, depending on light levels. Plants grown in more shade produce milder leaves that are thinner and cure lighter in color, while plants in full sun produce robust leaves with a heavier weight and cure to a vibrant red color.
Each order receives both types, at least 222 seeds of each variety.
Sow indoors on soil surface in early spring, transplant outside when danger of frost has passed.
